The Columbus Day Parade NYC 2010 starts today at 11:30AM until 3 PM. The parade starts at the 5th avenue from 47th St to 72nd St. It is expected that thousands of people will flock to the parade and watch the live performances. Live coverages by TV networks and online video streaming sites will surely be in-demand later on.
This year, financial reporter Maria Bartiromo serves as the Grand Marshall. She is also a resident from Brooklyn. The Columbus Day Parade is being celebrated in New York City for the past 66 years and it never failed to make everyone smile and happy.
Why do people celebrate the Columbus Day? DC Military explains: “Columbus Day, on the second Monday in October, is meant to commemorate October 12, 1492, the day when the Italian explorer Christopher Columbus, sailed from Spain and ‘discovered’ the Americas.” Because of this, Italian artists are expected to perform.
