The nation's employers added a net 192,000 jobs in February,
the Labor Department reported on Friday. That was close to
economists' expectations of 196,000 jobs.
The change for January was meanwhile revised to a gain of
63,000 from an initially reported 36,000.
The unemployment rate fell to 8.9 percent, from 9 percent.
This rate, which comes from a separate survey and is based on
the total number of Americans who want to work, has inched
downward in recent months but remains stubbornly high despite
payroll growth.
